“A woman is innocent until proven guilty and, a man is guilty until proven innocent” this is a very common statement nowadays whenever there is crime against or basically involving a woman. The movie, Section 375 revolves exactly around the weightage of accuracy this statement carries with itself.
STORYLINE OF THE MOVIE
The movie, Section 375 is based on rape and courtroom drama. The movie follows a film director who is accused of sexually assaulting an assistant costume designer and the girl is not someone who is going to keep her mouth shut about it. She files a complaint against the director, and the case goes to the sessions court and the court sentenced the director to 10 years of imprisonment. But the story doesn’t end here only.
The director’s wife hires a very prolific and recognized lawyer. The lawyer is Tarun Saluja, the name of the director who is accused of the crime is Rohan Khurana, the girl who is the victim is Anjali Dangle and the public prosecutor also known as the lawyer of victim is Hiral Gandhi. Basically, the movie as aforesaid is a courtroom drama where both the lawyers are observed to engage in maneuvers and arguments. Sometimes it feels like the girl is about to win the case and sometimes the director is at the verge of being proven innocent. The story is a bit crux and the end is quite unpredictable. But, yes of course the court will declare its judgement at the end.
CAST AND PERFORMANCE
Akshaye Khanna as Tarun Saluja:
Akshaye Khanna is a very fantastic actor. As usual, in this film also he makes the character come alive as a lawyer. It is truly a delight to watch him arguing in the courtroom and how he uses his intelligence in the case as the accused’s lawyer. Overall, he has done a great job.
Richa Chadda as Hiral Gandhi:
Richa Chadda is standing out in the movie as a very talented public prosecutor and she is the lawyer of the victim in the movie. She has done a recommendable job as an actor and has very defining skills.
Rahul Bhatt as Rohan Khurana:
Rahul Bhatt is playing the character of the film director who is accused of sexual assault by the assistant costume designer. His body language is so expressive that he can be judged as a rapist. He is coming out as a very dangerous man with all the arrogance of his success which is clearly being defined through his acting skills.
Meera Chopra as Anjali Dangle:
Meera has done a great job as the victim as she gives off the determinant vibe through her fine acting skills and expressions that she is not going to let the director go until he is punished for his crime. She is not afraid of the humiliation she is going to face in front of the world.
This movie is very bold in nature as the story involves some adult content but the context and intention of the movie is clear from the start. The openness of the movie is observed when the victim has to go under all the procedures where she has to give her statement for the case. If a rape victim continues to take her case ahead, the person is repeatedly questioned. Also, the victim has to testify in front of police and has to answer questions regarding the crime which can turn out to be awkward for the victim. So, the movie involves all these aspects and that’s what makes this flick very real.
Lastly, the dialogues and screenplay. The story, screenplay and dialogues are written by Manish Gupta. The director of the film Section 375 is Ajay Bahl. He has also done some additional screenplay and dialogues as well. Since the movie is a courtroom drama, the movie by default has a very exciting nature. The first half of the movie is a slow runner as the film is full of technical terminologies. But, after the interval although the technicalities are still there, the movie will definitely keep your interests up with its twists and turns and there will be a constant question in your head, “What will happen next?” The suspense in the end scenes of the movie will astonish you. Those who will be thinking throughout the movie that this is some regular rape courtroom drama will definitely change their opinion about the movie after the end and will be bewildered with the twist.
