Short film competition : Lovecraft Country’s Jamie Chung named ambassador for HBO’s 5th Asian Pacific American Visionaries (APAV)

Home Box Office or HBO, an American based television network which is famous for its recognizable entertainment and provides its audience with award-winning programs, has announced on 7 October 2020 for submission of its fifth annual Asian Pacific American Visionaries (APAV) for a short film competition.

The registration to take part in the competition will start from 9:00 am PST on 1 January 2020.

The competition is judged by APA film-makers and HBO executives. The competition gives chance to the talent of film-makers storytellers who present their vision of short stories according to their unique perspective. 

A glimpse of APAV: 

This time, Jamie Chung will be the spokeswoman and ambassador of the HBO program 2021. She is currently starring in “Lovecraft Country”, an American horror series premiering on HBO.

In the previous year, we have seen other famous personalities as the ambassador- Sujata Day from Insecure, Jimmy O’ Yang from Silicon Valley, and Shannon Lee of a warrior.

When the media asked Jamie Chung on being the ambassador of APAV, she expressed her happiness for being honored as an ambassador of the short story competition program. She also said that it was a great platform for budding storytellers to showcase their talent and be the future of literature.

In 2020, the theme for Asia Pacific American Visionaries was “Breaking Barriers”. And now in 2021, the theme is going to be “Taking the Lead”. These are the themes on which different filmmakers and storytellers have to present their perspective of the short story.

Jackie Gagne, senior VP of WarnerMedia has commented that he is very proud of the impact which APAV has created on the industry. He also expressed his excitement about experiencing the hidden talent of different storytellers that resides in the Asian-American community.

Dinh Thai, winner of 2017 APAV has referred to the HBO visionary as a big achievement of his life and he will be grateful to all the people who came in his life and preached his lesson of life. He also sold hi pilot script because of the event and moved to New Amsterdam.

Essential criteria for the film at the time of registration include:

  • 10-15 minutes of running time
  • Director must be of Asian accent and he must be a resident of Washington DC or the US
  • Language must be English or with English subtitles
  • Not publicly available or broadcasted online
  • Employees or family members of HBO or WarnerMedia are not allowed to participate

So dear budding storytellers, don’t wait and just go and prepare for the competition!!!
