“Sing,” a 2016 animated musical comedy, was a smash and remains at the top of the list of highest-grossing films that never finished first in the US box office (via Box Office Mojo). Calatonia, a metropolis populated by humanoid animal residents, was the setting for this fun family picture.
When Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey), the owner of the koala theatre, decided to host a singing competition to raise funds for his failing establishment, his assistant made a mistake and added extra digits to the prize money announcement, resulting in an overwhelming turnout and even more stress for the overworked theatre owner.
Fans adored the star-studded film and its catchy score, as well as the touching conclusion. The sequel to the hit film, named “Sing 2,” was announced in 2017, but the release date has been pushed back several times in recent years (via Deadline). The COVID-19 pandemic slowed production even more, although a new release date was recently revealed.
When Will Sing 2 Release?

Who Is In The Sing 2 Cast?
Matthew McConaughey reprises his role as Buster Moon, Reese Witherspoon reprises her role as Rosita, Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Ash, Taron Egerton reprises his role as Johnny, Nick Kroll reprises his role as Gunter, and Tori Kelly reprises her role as Meena (via Collider).
New cast members for the already star-studded show were confirmed in December 2020. Bono, the legendary musician, will play Clay Calloway, a retired rockstar and lion. Pharrell Williams will play Alfonso, an elephant who drives an ice cream truck. Eric Andre will play an egotistical yak.
Bobby Cannavale plays Jimmy Crystal, a wolf who is also a powerful Hollywood entrepreneur. Porsche, Jimmy’s adolescent daughter, will be played by Halsey. The hopefuls will be taught choreography by a feline dancer, played by Letitia Wright. Chelsea Peretti will play Jimmy’s canine companion (via THR).
While the first “Sing” film featured a strong cast and a fantastic soundtrack, these new additions are guaranteed to keep the franchise on top at the box office. Chris Meledandri, the founder of Illumination, told Variety that “”Sing 2″ is a musical celebration of never giving up on one’s aspirations, no matter how big the obstacles are in the way. This film is about the power of optimism and belief at its foundation.”
What Happens In Sing 2?
According to the film synopsis on Universal’s website, “we’ll follow Buster and his fantastic troop of performers as they set out to take on a grander stage at Redshore City’s famed Crystal Tower Theater.” However, in order to perform on their dream stage, the group must first win clearance from the powerful business magnate Jimmy Crystal.
Gunter promises that they’ll be able to persuade the reclusive rocker Clay Calloway to star in their show — even though they don’t know him and he’s been out of the spotlight for years — in a last-ditch effort to wow Crystal.
The cast set out to track down Calloway, persuade Crystal that everything is on track, and get ready for the show of a lifetime.
It’ll undoubtedly be a memorable experience for the entire family, and we’re excited to see where Buster and his brilliant crew finish up.
