Do you remember the teen comedy show ‘Skins’? Well, it’s not a surprise if you don’t, but the fact that it was something which youngsters didn’t know they needed, can’t be ignored. The theme of the show was basically designed for the teenagers as each episode focused on different sets of teens who faced real problems out there in the world but never lost the essence of humor. According to Digital Spy, 28 teen actors took part in ‘Skins’, but not all of them got to build their career from that point; only a few of them were able to make a big name and one of them is very well known as the all-star of films — Dev Patel.
Dev Patel played Anwar Kharral in ‘Skins’
Dev Patel was the part of the show which was focused on teens in Bristol, England. He was playing the character of Anwar Kharral in the teen comedy which highlighted two or more teens in a single episode, trying to solve some kind of usual teen problems. Anwar aka Dev was seen in 18 of Skins’ 61 episodes; according to IMDb. He appeared in season 1 which aired in 2007, his episode, “Mаxxie аnd Anwаr,” is the sixth episode of the show. In it, Anwar is dealing with a gay schoolmate, Mаxxie.
After ‘Skins,’ Dev Patel’s career took off
Right after his role on Skins, Dev Patel in Slumdog Millionaire and eventually had an amazing start to his career. The Slumdog Millionaire was an instant hit which came out in 2008, and the movie shed light on life in the slums of Indian subcontinent while proving that intelligence is subjective and the human spirit is indomitable. Slumdog Millionaire received a fair share of nominations and а few wins, including Outstanding Performance by а Cast in а Motion Picture at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. After Slumdog Millionaire, Patel starred in both Best Exotic Marigold Hotel movies named: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and The Second-Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. These movies elevated his name to the superstars list. After this he was seen in some TV shows such as: The Newsroom and a dystopian sci-fi Chappie.
Patel acted in the TV series recently named, Modern Love and the retelling of Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield called A Personal History of David Copperfield. But Lion is one of his works, which was more popular at award shows and is considered a masterpiece. In Lion, an Indian boy is adopted by an Australian couple after being separated from his family. The movie details his return to India and his search for his birth family. Dev took home а BAFTA for his role in Lion. He received nominations at all the major award shows for the project as well. Dev was also nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award thanks to the project.
