There has been a ridiculous amount of rumours about the casting of the new spidey movie that have been too heated and have been planting seeds of hopes into the minds of the fans that it became absolutely necessary to address them. Rumours have been floating around about Toby Mcguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland to unite together for the new spiderman movie.
The rumours did not seem much farfetched, thanks to the introduction of the multiverse in MCU and therefore started heating up to the point where it became an absolute and extreme necessity for the production house to address it.
A representative from the studio addressed the rumor and said, “Those rumored castings are not confirmed.”
Which doesn not really confirm of it not happening, therefore, all that we can do now is assume it our way. Again, as mentioned, it behooves Sony for us to still be talking about the possibility that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire might show up in the third MCU Spider-Man movie. But you literally walk on thin ice when it comes to entertaining rumors like that.
In such cases, mostly a studio either rips off the Band-Aid saying, “Nope, that’s not happening,” at which fans will be disappointed at first, but then they will settle in for what the eventual story might actually be or they can say, “We have no comment” leading to months of speculation and then possibly disappoint if the rumor doesn’t pan out. To be honest, bandaid rip sounds much better than months of anticipation that eventually disappoints.
There’s a lot going on in the MCU’s Spider-Man 3, notably the casting of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange in the sequel, as well as the confirmed addition of Jamie Foxx’s Electro to the mix. I do think that bringing Foxx over to the MCU is hinting at the existence of multiple Spider-Man universes, and that Marvel and Sony eventually are building up to the inclusion of Garfield and Maguire in a Tom Holland movie.
