Tom Holland made an instant impact as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, his first appearance in the MCU. With noteworthy cameos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Tom Holland’s friendly neighbourhood franchise-crosser is closer to the original Stan Lee and Steve Ditko comic character than Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield.

As a solo artist, Spider-Man has had a successful run with two chart-topping films starring Michael Keaton as the Vulture and Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio, respectively. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ due in 2021, is the character’s next MCU outing, and it’s quickly becoming the most anxiously awaited Marvel release in recent memory. As the destined date approaches, here are the latest Spider-Man: No Way Home information and developments, as well as a chronology of progress that includes confirmed cast returns, remarks from the actors, and the multiverse-shattering teaser teases.

There was a time when MCU Spider-Man 3 seemed unlikely. Sony bought the movie rights to Spider-Man from Marvel in 1998, and while many other lost Marvel properties have since been recovered, the Web-Slinger is still with Sony. In the wake of the Amazing Spider-Man series’ debacle, though, Sony was eager to get back into the game development market. So Sony and Marvel agreed to co-produce Spider-Man stand-alone movies as part of the deal.

Despite the critical acclaim of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Sony and Marvel were unable to agree, and for some time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s history, Spidey was sent back to Sony. Fortunately, Tom Holland, who had been drinking heavily, was on the case. In September 2019, Disney and Sony announced an extension of their agreement thanks to the actor’s urging. As a result, Spider-Man 3 had a release date of July 16th, 2021, set for the then-untitled sequel.

After Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Jon Watts returns to direct his third MCU Spider-Man film. Composer Michael Giacchino, authors Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and he’ll all be back together for this one. Mauro Fiore, the cinematographer behind Avatar, will supervise the photography for this special event. The public had high hopes that Zendaya and Holland would return for the film’s sequel. However, after Tom Holland refused to comment on the future of Peter and MJ’s romance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, her return was made official in March 2020.
