The showrunners of Discovery have hit a major reset button. The Trek franchise has both continuities of the stories and letting it all go with the release of Discovery season 3. In the new season, viewers will get to see Michael Burnham arrive in the 31st century.
The franchise has never gone beyond before. But the fans already knew that it was going to happen after watching the second season. Right not, Discovery Season 3 has become the biggest Star Trek reboot since J.J. Abrams. However, it seems like this reboot is way bigger than expected.
Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 — Sneak Peek at the first few episodes
Director Olatunde Osunsanmi said that the first episode would be a game-changer in the third season. He continued that they are going further into the future in the year of 3188, where no other Star Trek series has gone. If you are watching the series for the first time, then starting the series from the third season is not a terrible place to start.
In the new season, Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) finds herself in an unfamiliar place, and he depends on Book (David Ajala), who is a dashing space courier. He tells her everything about 3188.
The third season will also not feature Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets. Burnham soon realizes that the government she was working for in the past isn’t much of a thing in the 31st century.
Though the storyline sounds dark, the new season is less self-conscious than the previous two seasons. Fans might find the future a bit messy in the beginning, but we are sure that it ain’t dark. We can say that it is a refreshing change to the series.
Osunsanmi stated that he worked hard to add jokes and the fun of being in a completely new world. There is a lot of dark content, but he doesn’t think that it is a dark show. Many things have happened with Book, but he is very jovial in a swashbuckler way.
In Discovery Season 1, there is an episode titled “The Butcher’s Knife Cares Not For the Lamb’s Cry,” where the viewers thought Ripper was a killing machine, but in the end, they realized that he was just a mutated giant and a victim of the situation.
Same thing viewers will get to see in the third season. In the third season, one might think that Book is a heartless smuggler, viewers will soon learn that he is transporting a Tranceworm to a safe planet.
Conclusion
The first episode is a great way of forecasting what viewers can expect in the first few episodes of the upcoming season. And for the very first time, Star Trek is trying to explore the galaxy.
Fans are gonna enjoy the new season, which has more claustrophobic settings as well as the best cinematography. The third season of Star Trek: Discovery releases on CBS All Access every Thursday. Check out the promo for Discovery Season 3 below.
