The seventh series in the Star Trek franchise, the show was well received by the fans and the second season had a record-breaking success. So when can we expect season 3? Let’s find out! The show’s 1st season begins roughly 10 years before the events of Star Trek: The Original Series. We see the kingdom houses become united in a war with the United Federation of Planets and mainly focuses on the crew of the USS Discovery (NCC-1031).
The second season takes us to the time after the war has ended and we see that Discovery investigates the seven mysterious signals and a strange figure called “Red Angel”. The show is produced by CBS Television Studios along with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment and Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise will be the Showrunner for the 3rd season.
Expected Release Date
The 2nd season of the show aired in from January 17, 2019, to April 18, 2019, and the 3rd season is along the horizon as well. Although there isn’t any official release date however we have seen some tweets that suggest that the show was being edited by the editors from their home during the Pandemic and will probably air sometime towards the end of 2020.
Cast
We will be seeing the cast from previous the season along with some new characters in the 3rd season. We can be sure that Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, Doug Jones as Saru, Anthony Rapp as Paul Stamets, Mary Wiseman as Sylvia Tilly, and Wilson Cruz as Hugh Culber will be back again in the 3rd season. We will also see some new faces like Christopher Pike as Anson Mount, Ethan Peck as Spock, and David Ajala as Cleveland “Book” Booker

The 3rd season will be 930 years in the future and we will see Michael Burnham find a new core and a new partner in crime as well who will be Book played by David Ajala. The season will be more focused on action and adventure rather than the pain and guilt of her past. We will also see Spock having to figure out how to balance between logic and emotions and where does he stand. We will also see 3rd season help tie some loose knots between the original Star Trek and Star Trek: Discover.
