For many years, Hollywood has been popular with stories about teenagers who have dark, hidden secrets. Take, for example, the 1989 dark comedy “Heathers.” Recently, shows such as “Dare Me,” “Cruel Summer,” and “Euphoria” have dramatised the disturbing cultural expectations that often lead young women to make what appear to be dangerous, risky decisions.
One thing is certain: the darker impulses of the young will remain a powerful subgenre for many years to come.
Jennifer Kaytin, who worked on Robinson, is currently working on another twisted adolescent comedy. Robinson’s feature-length debut, “Someone Great,” with Gina Rodriguez, can be remembered as a woman determined last night in New York City with her best friends after a bad breakdown and great change. “Strangers,” a Netflix Original film about two teenagers seeking vengeance.
Cast
Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke played “alpha”, with Hawke playing “beta” alt-girl Eleanor. They were both “Strangers.” Another A-lister will appear in the film. According to a June 2021 deadline report, “Game of Thrones” alum “Sophie Turner” will play a minor role in “Strangers.” Turner’s first role since the completion of the massive HBO fantasy series in 2019.
Hawke was recently cast in Gia Coppola’s “Mainstream” in 2021 and Showtime’s “Good Lord Bird” in 2020. Mendes is currently starring at the Veronica Lodge in the fifth season of the CW teen drama “Riverdale,” and he recently appeared in Hulu’s romantic comedy “Palm Springs’ 2020.”
Interestingly, both actresses have worked with Netflix: Mendes appeared in the rom-com series “The Perfect Date” and “Dangerous Lies” in 2020, while Hawke played Robin in the Netflix series “Stranger Things.”
When is it coming?
The release date of “Strangers season 4” on Netflix is largely determined by the schedules of both leading actresses, as well as Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s availability. Hawke will continue to film “Stranger Things” Season 4 beginning in July 2020 (though David Harbour told Jimmy Kimmel that filming would likely wrap in August), whereas Mendes may begin filming “Riverdale” Season 6 later this year.
In the meantime, Robinson is very busy in Hollywood. She was casted and story co-written with director Taika Waititi to produce her upcoming Marvel film “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which will be released in June 2021.
In other words, the trio will most likely shoot “Foreigners” after Hawke’s “Stranger Things” wraps, and “Riverdale” later in the summer or early autumn of 2021, before Mendes. It is expected that the film will be released in early 2022.
