According to Deadline, a Supernatural prequel series is in the works, with original cast member Jensen Ackles on board.
The monster-hunting brothers Dean (Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) Winchester were the stars of Supernatural, which ran on the CW from 2005 to 2020. The Winchesters is a prequel series that will recount the tale of their parents, John and Mary Winchester, and how they met and put their love on the line to rescue the world. In addition to executive producing the program with his wife Daneel Ackles, Ackles will reprise his role as Dean as a narrator (who was a guest star on the original series).
When Sam is a newborn, Mary is slain by a demon in the original series. After researching her death, John becomes a monster hunter and ultimately passes on his talents and information to his sons. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith portrayed the pair on Supernatural. Robbie Thompson, the executive producer of the first series, will pen the script for The Winchesters. Padalecki, though, is one Supernatural alum who will not be appearing.
Regardless of the fact that Perhaps the Winchesters is set before Ackles’ character was born, the actor will reprise his role as Dean by narrating the series, and he and his Supernatural co-star and real-life wife Danneel will also serve as executive producers.
Of course, we shouldn’t be too astonished if a Supernatural prequel is in the works. After all, the main show’s ending caused controversy among viewers, and the team’s aspirations for the episode were dashed when the epidemic struck.
Will The Winchesters be able to make up for Supernatural’s lacklustre conclusion? We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
