Elizabeth Debicki becomes Princess Diana. But when does the Netflix series “The Crown” continues, how should it end, and who else is playing?

At the top of the British royal family, thanks to Queen Elizabeth II (94), there is the most significant possible continuity – after all, she has been on the throne for almost 70 years. With the successful Netflix series “The Crown,” it looks different. The actors are swapped and replaced with older actors regularly, to be able to portray the decades-long reign of the Queen and lots of family drama.

It was recently announced that “Tenet” star Elizabeth Debicki (29) will have the honor of playing Princess Diana (1961-1997) in the fifth and final sixth season. Which casting decisions have been made? Will the film-ready drama about Prince Harry (35) and Duchess Meghan (39) also be discussed? And when can the new episodes be expected?

Waiting for season four

In the first two seasons, Claire Foy (36) embodied the young Queen, the plot lasted from 1947 to 1964. With season three, the casting carousel was started for the first time. Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (46) succeeded Foy until 1977. The plot lasted for ten episodes. The so-far unreleased fourth season continues with the same cast. An exact date for them is unknown, but it is still assumed that the ten new episodes will be released by the end of this year.

In addition to Colman as Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies (46) as Prince Philip (99), Helena Bonham Carter (54) as Princess Margaret (1930-2002), Erin Doherty (28) as Princess Anne (70), and Josh O ‘Connor, 30, is back as Prince Charles (71), to name a few. For the first time, Emma Corrin (24) will be seen as the young version of Lady Di and “The X-Files” star Gillian Anderson (52) as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (1925-2013).

This is known for seasons five and six.

Season four could be shot before the corona pandemic, but season five will probably be affected by it. For example, the US website “Deadline” recently reported that it could not be expected until 2022. Whether the final sixth season will appear in 2023 is currently still in the stars.

It cannot be taken for granted that there will be a sixth season at all. At first, it was said that six seasons were planned, then it was shortened by Netflix to five and has now been expanded to six. This decision was made in close cooperation with series creator Peter Morgan (57)

Do more seasons does also mean a more extended period that is covered? There was already a definite no. There is also a plan to end “The Crown” when the beginning of 2000 is reached. The fans will have to do without a Duchess Meghan storyline, including “Megxit” despite ten additional episodes.

Part of the acting ensemble has already been determined.

Netflix has already officially announced four new stars, who will be seen in seasons five and six. In addition to the Elizabeth mentioned above as Princess Diana, actress Imelda Staunton (64) will reign as Queen Elizabeth II, known for example as Dolores Umbridge in some parts of the “Harry Potter” film adaptation. At her side, Prince Consort Philip, played by “Game of Thrones” star Jonathan Pryce (73). And the new actress of Princess Margaret is already known: Lesley Manville (64, “The silk thread”) will play her.
