While Regina King was the masterpiece of her Oscar-nominated directing debut in her right, last year’s prizes were missed. But, as the trailer of the upcoming Netflix film The Hard They Fall explosively demonstrates, she’s back in action this fall.
The picture is like a soup-up Red Dead Redemption, the West from the mind of filmmaker Jeymes Samuel and writer Boaz Yakin (for the gamers in the room). It follows competing gangs crossing the U.S. border in a variety of beautiful mixing and overcoat headgear. They want money, revenge and an alternative justification to kill the poor man in the face. They will have many opportunities to do so.
In his extensive list of originals, Netflix had a fair share of hits and running homes, but we’d like to put a lot of bucks into betting that it’s a hit. But while we are waiting for more than a trailer of 2 minutes, this is what we know else.
The harder they fall is followed by two outlaws: Nat Love and the adversary Rufus Buck. Decades ago, the death of Rufus Nat’s parents and Nat’s fierce revenge was breaking him out of prison as soon as he discovers that the crew of Rufus. With Stagecoach Mary and Bill Pickett and Jim Beckwourth, Nat tracks Rufus, but Rufus is looking after him. So you can expect them to know their way around a battle with names like “Treacherous” Trudy Smith and Cherokee Bill.
A majority-Black ensemble was assembled for the West in Samuel and Yakin, which featured King as a trudy. The beasts of no nation, Thor, are placed under the ruler of Rufus Buck and Lovecraft Country, and Da 5 Star Jonathan Majors plays Nat Love. As Cherokee Bill, LaKeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah) takes Rufus to one side, while Nat’s former love Stagecoach is Zazie Beetz (Atlanta). Edi Gathegi joins them like Jim Beckwourth like Bill Pickett, and R.J. Cyler.
The Harder They Fall was produced by Shawn Carter, James Lassiter, Lawrence Bender, and Jeymes Samuel and directed by Samuel and Iakin. Samuel was the author of The Harder They Fall, and Samuel was a composer. The trailer promises that the movie “should come soon,” and the date of release is not yet announced. However, we may expect the rumour that select cinemas and Netflix should launch in full this fall.
