The Lord of the Rings is all set to make the jump from big screen to the smaller one. In collaboration with the Tolkien estate, a live-action TV adaptation is in the making that J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantastical world’s fans will be soon witnessing on Amazon Prime Video.
We’ve already witnessed the two trilogies that came out. The audience did have mixed opinions regarding the second release but nevertheless it was a great experience altogether. This project is a tid-bit different than the others in the list as it would be the first time when we will be let into Tolkien’s literary universe.
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings adaptation is right now far away from its launch but there have been spills regarding the plot, trailer, and cast over the internet. Here’s what we know so far!!
Filming began in February 2020 and is considered to be underway. Of course, the production team did face several issues owing to the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of which it had to shut down in March 2020 in New Zealand (h/t New Zealand Herald). Additionally, there were issues regarding stuntwoman Elissa Cadwell who got injured pretty early on the set when the production was just two episodes into the filming process.
In July 2020, production began once again when New Zealand government minister Phil Twyford granted exemptions in the less COVID stricken country to seven film and TV productions. The cast and crew was then allowed to enter the country but this wasn’t possible for non-New Zealanders. The overall filming procedure was then resumed in late September which went later in full swing after a two-break Christmas break in January.
As of now, there’s no news regarding the release of Lord of the Rings but it’s highly anticipated to drop sometime in December 2021. Moreover, the team seems to be quite silent on the cast members who would be featuring in the upcoming episodes.
