We were west of Philadelphia growing and living on vacation, paying a lot of attention to the police (especially now that it is mandatory to wear a mask) when, bang! We came across the best news of the day: they are preparing a ‘reboot’ of ‘The Prince of Bel-Air’ and we already have the first details!
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the first person who is involved in this project is Will Smith. He has teamed up with Morgan Cooper, a film director, to bring back the series that conquered you so much in the 90s (or that you saw a bit later during the summers because you were younger).
However, the format we are used to from ‘The Prince of Bel-Air’ will not be the same. The ‘sit-com’ of canned laughter that did not deal with social issues will become a drama in which emotions and the fight against injustice will carry the main weight of the story.
Especially now that society needs to see what it means to be black in the world today. And, this whole project arises because Will Smith was struck by a film already released by the previously appointed director.
The Prince of Rap in Bel-Air is one of the most celebrated American sitcoms of the 90s aired from 1990 to 1996, and the series was in charge of launching actor Will Smith to global stardom, who was able to participate in films like Bad Boys and Independence Day.
The original series tells the story of young Will Smith, who, after a dispute with a treacherous gang in Philadelphia, is sent by his mother to live with his wealthy Bel-Air relatives in Los Angeles. The NBC network produced the series.
