A Polish American fantasy drama, The Witcher is a tele series produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It is based on the book “The Witcher” by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The first season of The Witcher was released on December 20th, 2019.
An original Netflix Series, the first season consisted of eight episodes of an average 45 minutes. The series gained a lot of praise and appreciation from the fans as post The Game of Thrones there was not much happening in the fantasy world which is full of action and drama.
The show gained massive popularity in a small-time frame, thanks to the wonderful storyline and creative Cinematography by Jean-Philippe Gossart and by Gavin Struthers. It was ranked as the third most in-demand series in the US. Netflix announced that Season one saw over 76 million views in the first month of its release.
The review aggregator “Rotten Tomatoes” reported a 67% approval rating for the first season. The show was recognized by some renowned names in the industry for its originality, horror elements, and rawness.
The cast of the show included names like Henry Cavill, popularly known for his roles in DC Comics’ character Superman. Alongside with him were actors like Freya Allan, Eamon Farren, Anya Chalotra, Joey Batey, MyAnna Buring, Royce Pierreson, Mimi Ndiweni, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte, Anna Shaffer and Mahesh Jadu.
The Witcher takes you to the world of Geralt of Rivia, who is a mutated monster hunter available for hire and princess Ciri, who are connected to each other because of their destiny. The show takes you through their struggles as they follow their destiny in a choppy world. The story depicts a world where people are found more dangerous than beasts.
Regarding the Season two of the series, Netflix renewed the second season before the first season was released on November 13, 2019. They planned the production to start in early in 2020, shooting was supposed to happen in London. The series was originally planned for its release in early 2021.
However, the global pandemic COVID 19 delayed the entire production plans. The makers and the team of The Witcher are expecting to resume the production soon. This may cause some further delays with respect to the release of season 2. We predict the season might now be premiered in mid of 2021 if everything goes by the new set of planning.
The good news however is that season 2 is happening and is officially confirmed by Netflix. In Season 2 we expect the previous season’s cast to reprise their roles with some new faces to be introduced. More intricate details will follow as we await official announcements of season two of The Witcher. No trailers have been released yet for the season.
