‘TRESE’: Release date and all that you need to know!

Apart from it being passed down from generation to generation, Filipino folk lore is very much a treasure for the creative community, whether it be the filmmakers or the comic book creator. Such as the case with the comic writer Budjette Tan. He is showcasing Filipino mythology with a modern twist in his comic book entitled, ‘Trese’. Just recently at Netflix’s Anime festival it was announced that an anime series based on the comic book will launch in 2021.

As Netflix is expanding its domain with original Anime series, ‘Trese’ is being premiered under the original category. ‘Trese’ is an award-winning komik (term used for comics in the Philippines). Aforementioned, the writer of this comic is Budjette Tan and the artist is Kajo Baldisimo. Excessively dominating the likes of Lucifer and The Outsider, this series is falling under supernatural crime genre including spooky witchcraft activities. Although it is unclear as to how much part of this series will follow the source material.

According to the Netflix synopsis…

“In Manila, where dark supernatural forces pervade the criminal underworld, it’s up to Alexandra Trese to keep the peace — but there’s a storm brewing.”

The plot revolves around Alexandra Trese who is a detective handling supernatural cases in the city which she calls her home, Manila. Nuno sa Manhole yet another dwarf creature and a major character in ‘Trese’. Nuno is seen as the sidekick of Alexandra. Two bodyguards of Trese, also known as Twins, will be observed along with Trese when they take on the monsters of the city.

Shay Mitchell, Manny Jacinto, Dante Basco, Darren Criss, Jon Jon Briones, Lou Diamond Phillips and Nicole Scherzinger are featured as the voice actors as Netflix stays true to the origins of Filipino descent. As for the Filipino language, the viewers are going to hear Liza Soberano, Niica Rojo, Steffi Graf Bontogon-Mola, RJ Celdran and many more known voices.

‘Trese’ is scheduled to premiere on June 10, 2021.
