Since the earliest days of the coronavirus pandemic, ‘Over The Top’ (OTT) media platforms saw a sudden boost in all parts of the world. In India, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video were on the top list of the preferences for content while some other OTT platforms also saw a huge number of viewers; Sony LIV being one of them which was announced in May 2020. The web series which can exclusively be viewed on this platform gained an extreme number of subscribers as the content shown is excellent. Web series such as Scam-1992 and Your Honor are some of the most popular ones. But there is a very underrated web television series which is definitely worth watching, Undekhi. It premiered on 10th July, 2020 and was originally released in Hindi language. Those who have watched Undekhi, will strongly recommend this typical family crime drama thriller, but here’s a small piece of advice: DO NOT WATCH THIS SERIES WITH YOUR FAMILY. Yes, this crime thriller has extreme nudity and adult content so it is preferred to watch it alone. The story of the series is based on Satya Incident which is successfully reshaped into a more thrilling story.
Well, here is good news for the fans of Undekhi season-1, the show is renewed for yet another season. The show is coming back with all new aspects to the story which was left unfinished in the last episode of the first season. The show is a perfect example of capitalism and tells us about the imaginary yet very clear line between rich and poor. Former can get away with anything and later proves to be the punching bag of the elite.
PLOT OF THE SERIES
Incidents of wealthy or elite class stepping on the poor, killing them for fun, not regretting a bit for their crime and getting away from it are not rare in our country. Movie to web series, every platform has covered such incidents in one way or another. The thrilling plot of the series is set in the deep forests of Sunderbans where a body is found and the DSP named Barun Gosh is on the investigating trail. Two girls of a tribal community background are suspected to be the culprits of the crime and now are on the run.
The focus is shifted to a wedding in a grand hotel of Manali. Daman and Teji are a couple who are about to get married. The entire wedding is shot by the wedding planners who are specifically from Delhi. Unfortunately, the wedding doesn’t go as planned when Daman’s papaji shoots one of the dancers just because she was not dancing according to him. The girl who was shot turns out to be one of those two girls who were on a run for the crime they are suspected of by DSP.
All this was captured by one of the crew members of the wedding shoot team and Papaji’s adopted son who is also a gangster named Rinku decides to clean all the evidence of the crime. But, Rishi (videographer) on the other hand is adamant to fight for the killed girl’s justice and wants Papaji to get punished for his crime.
RECAP OF LAST EPISODE OF SEASON-1
After the unfortunate murder, Daman’s fiancé Teji gets afraid and tries to cut ties with Daman and his twisted family. But before she could do anything, she is blackmailed by Rinku about her father’s past but Teji is not someone to get suppressed so she decides to avenge the gangster aka Rinku. Things are not easy now as Rishi’s phone gets fixed and the video of the murder which is a very important evidence is recovered from the backup. Rinku is trying to shift the blame on Rishi but the video will definitely not let that happen.
Frustrated and very angry Rinku is now on a spree to kill Rishi and he tries to shoot him but whether Rishi is dead or not that is a cliffhanger which is yet to be cleared out. Meanwhile, DSP Gosh is now in Manali and the other girl who is a culprit tells the investigating officer that the man who was murdered in Sunderbans used to molest young girls. With all this new revelation and Teji’s revenge on Rinku is setting a whole new story for the second season of the series.
RELEASE DATE OF SEASON-2
Undekhi season-1 had 10 episodes with each episode’s run time being 30-35 minutes and the same is expected for its season-2. The series is written by Siddharth Sengupta, Varun Badola, Umesh Padalkar, Mohinder Pratap Singh and Jyoti Singh. The series is directed by Ashish R. Shukla. The producers of the series are Applause Entertainment and Edgestorm Ventures. The CEO of Applause Entertainment posted a photo of Pork Belly on his official Instagram account with captions indicating the arrival of Undekhi Season-2.
The caption stated: “Detectable Pork Belly at San at @San: Qui @Fourseasons @mumbai with @surya_sharma_09 @rohit.philip.758 @applausesocial #undekhi #season2 #comingsoon.” To which actor Surya Sharma aka Rinku from Undekhi replied: “Sameer Sir, I just saw that you announced #undekhi season 2 with a delicious pork belly.”
The release date of the Season-2 is still not confirmed by the makers but the fans are excited to hear the news of the renewed season. The season-2 is to be premiered on Sony LIV originals and will be accessible to the viewers with the premium subscription.
