One of the most anticipated series on Disney Plus will be the Andor TV show shortly.
In contrast to the “divisive” nature of at least three of the five Disney-era Star Wars films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hit all the right notes with fans of the classic Star Wars trilogy. With a daring Rebel operation to recover Death Star schematics, it led straight into A New Hope. It included X-Wing on TIE Fighter dogfights, Stormtroopers galore, and a relentlessly depressing conclusion. Finally, however, there are plans to return to that universe in this eagerly awaited prequel series.
While Rogue One focuses on Cassian Andor, the Andor TV show will explore Cassian’s storey before joining the Rogue One mission. Featuring Diego Luna reprising his role and Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy helming the programme, it looks like it will be an espionage thriller in space. Luna will be joined by a large ensemble in the galaxy far, far away. We also know it will have movie-scale production values, with literally thousands of actors and actresses.
It will premiere in 2022, according to Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm’s president. Along with Rogue One star Diego Luna, the film’s ensemble cast includes Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgard, Fiona Shaw, Robert Emms, and Denise Gough and Kyle Soller. Additionally, Genevieve O’Reilly also reprises her role as Mon Mothma in the new version of the film.
An intelligence agent’s adventures are the focus of this spy story, a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Andor will function as a prologue to Rogue One, and it will go deeper into Cassian’s past and motivations to better understand his character. Cassian explained to Jyn Erso in Rogue One that he has done regrettable things for the Rebel Alliance, so the show would likely focus on that. Traditionally, Star Wars stories have avoided revealing the Rebels’ dark side, so it will be interesting to see how far the show goes with its representation of the Rebels’ dark side.
